The proposal in this regard was unanimously passed at the Municipal Corporation Executive meeting on Thursday. Mayor Ashok Tiwari said in a statement on Friday, “It has been decided to keep all fish and meat shops closed during Navratri keeping in mind the religious importance of Kashi and the feelings of the devotees.” “Strict action will be taken against any shopkeeper violating this order,” he said.
 
Speaking to news agency ANI, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Akshat Verma said that preparations are going on to implement the order. To ensure compliance, the Municipal Corporation will first conduct public awareness campaign.
