Polluted water from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana flows into the Yamuna river. This polluted water goes to Gurugram Canal i.e. (under Okhla Barrage in Delhi). This information has been given by the Haryana government in the assembly on Friday.
In response to a question asked by Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed of Noah region of Congress, the state government said that the polluted waste is affecting the quality of water of the canal and in return is adversely affecting flora and fauna. The Congress MLA had asked whether it is true that the water of the polluted canal is being released in the Gurugram canal. Ahmed also wanted to know what steps are being taken to solve this problem.
The government said that sewage lines have been laid in all the towns and cities of the catchment area of the Yamuna river and the Yamuna Action Plan is being implemented in this regard, the progress of which is reviewed regularly by the Chief Secretary of Haryana.
The Water Power Secretary of the Central Government also reviews the implementation of Yamuna Action Plans of various basin states. According to the government’s written statement, 1,239 million liter (MLD) sewage is generated daily in 34 cities falling in the Yamuna river and 89 sewage treatment plants (STPs) of 1,526 MLD capacity have been installed in the region. Out of 89 STPs, 65 STPs of 987 MLD have been created in the last 10 years.
